Yesterday I watched a series of financial development workshops. One suggested that I create a new persona, so I did:
GiGi D’Or is an elusive billionaire philanthropist who uses her money to enjoy life, ensure her family legacy and to build sustainable cities and regional economies.
GiGi takes care of herself with a healthy, organic diet, prepared by her personal chef; maintains a daily yoga, exercise and meditation regimen with a weekly personal coach; and enjoys curating meticulously planned and financed experiences for her family and close circle. She begins each day with a briefing on her diverse financial portfolio with her team of advisors. Her portfolio includes commercial and residential real estate holdings, index funds, stocks, annuities, SEP and Roth IRAs and 529 Savings plans for her two youngest children.
A lifelong learner, GiGi invests and participates in appropriate circles of likeminded visionaries.
Her previous money beliefs included her being too far behind financially to achieve her investment goals because she spent her second through fifth decades in university, low-income positions, nonprofit community development, service and volunteering. She used to believe that giving her talent away was better than monetizing it and this meant that she was a good person.
Now she demands her worth in the marketplace.
When GiGi was younger, her grandmother told her that they were poor, even though they owned their home outright, were college graduates and had professions. Her grandmother told her that her ideas were grandiose and that she had champagne tastes on a beer budget. Now she has champagne tastes on a platinum and diamond budget and enjoys yachting and sailboat excursions in the Caribbean and Mediterranean with and without family.
GiGi used to be pessimistic and often complained about her plight in life, challenging relationships and situations. Now she is her greatest fan and treats herself with grace and kindness. She believes in herself and knows that if there is a solution to be found, she can find it. GiGi is the captain of her fate and master of her destiny. She has chosen empowerment above overwhelm.
I feel great about my commitment to my Creative Intensive and will contribute $1 each day to my cup for my participation fees. Today and tonight my focus was on taking control of my finances and the details that have been overwhelming me for years. I spent time on both the Suze Orman and Dow Janes websites. Both showed up in my FB stories and while I haven’t spent money on either, I have come away with loads of insights and information that I can act on immediately.
Yes I feel pressured that I haven’t saved for retirement. We have two minor children, one with special needs. With Orman’s help I will develop all of the legal documents that I need. Orman is about 15 years my senior and it’s also interesting to take the advice from two young women who are at least 20 years my junior. Both work.
GiGi D’Or is a beast! She asks if our family is to stay in New Orleans through December, how can we increase our comfort and safety?
The point of the exercise was to uncover longstanding beliefs that no longer serve me, to reframe negatives into positives and to support myself in taking massive action moving forward.
As a result, I found today’s two-hour creative intensive session to be far more uplifting than the first night. I set the dial on my energy and focus instead of holding space for concerns that need not be my own. I can show empathy and compassion without taking on the emotional weight of external situations and the concerns of others.
Tonight is the full moon and I feel extremely positive about my work and the direction I am headed.
